Brief CV
Holding a PhD degree in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, I am Professor in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at University of Sciences, Techniques and Technologies of Bamako (USTTB). Currently I am the Director of the Institute of Applied Sciences (ISA) of USTTB and Director of the African Center for Bioinformatics (ACE-B) at USTTB.
I am a Fulbright fellow at Weill Cornell Medical College, New York, USA (antimalarial drug development from plants), a site investigator of H3ABionet node USTTB and Co-PI of NIH fogarty training program USTTB and Tulane.
My research areas concern the molecular drug resistance of P falciparum to antimalarials in Mali and the development of potential drugs from natural products and using in silico bioinformatic tools.

Dr. Cheickna CISSE hold a Ph.D in Biochemistry and Bioinformatics at the University of Grenoble Alpes, France, 2012. Dr CISSE obtained a MSc in Biochemistry at the University Joseph Fourier, 2008. Hired in 2016, Dr CISSE is currently an Assistant Professor of Biochemistry and Bioinformatics and Deputy Director of the African Center of Excellence in Bioinformatics (ACE-B) of Bamako, at the University of Sciences, Techniques and Technologies of Bamako (USTTB), Mali.
Dr CISSE worked on the optimization of peptide inhibitors against Fur (Ferric Uptake Regulator) an antibacterial target during his doctoral project (CEA-Grenoble, France) and on the identification and in silico design of potential inhibitors of resistant bacterial targetsduring a one-year postdoctoral project at ICSN-CNRS, Paris. Dr CISSE’s current researches are focused on prediction and modeling malaria therapeutic targets and their potential inhibitors using bioinformatics approaches and on highlighting and quantification of the bioactive properties of natural compounds.
Dr CISSE has been involved in several Bioinformatics capacity building initiatives in Mali through NIH Fogarty supported training grants: 1] West African Center of Excellence for Global Health Bioinformatics Research Training in collaboration with Tulane University in USA and 2] West African Sustainable Leadership and Innovation Training in Bioinformatics Research (WASLITBRE) with Covenant University of Nigeria. As Deputy Director of ACE-B, Dr. CISSE, Ph.D. is committed to develop expertise in Bioinformatics for sustainable biomedical research in Africa.
